TIP TIME: Finding a precut pattern

Have a precut, but don’t know how to sew it up? Here are three great resources! Note that with any precut, it will likely need supplementing with a background fabric of some sort to make it big enough and add necessary space for the prints to have maximum impact.

- Moda Bake Shop. This free resource has years and years of content, organized by precut type. Within this blog you’ll find patterns on the site, plus links to sew alongs and books relating to jelly rolls, layer cakes, fat quarter bundles and much more.

- Your local library. There are many quilting books out there that exclusively offer precut patterns. Use search terms such as “precut quilts,” or the name of your precut in the online search facility. Amanda Niderhauser and Pam and Nicky Lintott have multiple books that you may find useful. Just note that some of these patterns require more than one precut – for example it may need three charm packs or two jelly rolls depending on the finished size, so check the pattern before you decide to buy a book if you already have the fabric you want to use.

- Instagram. Search Instagram for examples of quilts other people have made and hopefully they will share the pattern name and designer in the description. Use the name of the precut in search, such as “charm pack quilt” or “charm pack pattern”. This particular search brought up this contemporary pattern we love by Moda designer, Robin Pickens!
