TIP TIME: Adding interfacing
The type of interfacing you select for a project will impact the final feel of the item.
Here are a few options you could use for our fabric lanyard tutorial: fusible fleece, quilt batting or simply leave it out all together!
Fusible fleece
Fusible fleece is quick and easy to apply with just the heat of your iron. It provides the lanyard with structure and a slight cushioned feel. The fusing material adds convenience, because it doesn’t shift while sewing.
Quilt batting
This is another classic option that will give the lanyard some structure, but less than the fusible fleece. We found the quilt batting more fussy to sew into the fabric because it shifted more than the adhered fusible fleece.
No interfacing
Leaving out the interfacing altogether is another option. This is the quickest and the most cost-effective method, as it eliminates some of the material needed. This lanyard has the least structure, and it may stretch depending on the weight it holds.
Tip Time: We tested each of these interfacing and selected fusible fleece as the best option for the fabric lanyard.
