Baby Tutorial: Taggie Blanket Toy
Keep baby entertained for HOURS with this interactive baby taggie blanket toy!
Finished Size: 9″ square excluding tags
Difficulty: Easy
Time to make: 30 mins
This taggie flannel blanket has a secret ingredient to make it crinkle!
Seam allowances are ¼” unless stated otherwise. Remember to prewash your flannel fabrics to prevent shrinkage later on.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Sewing machine
- A fat quarter of flannel fabric (Shop flannel fabrics here)
- Ribbon scraps with various textures
- 10″ scrap of batting
- Cereal bag
- Quilting ruler, mat and rotary cutter
- Scissors
- Pins or Wonder Clips
Cut your flannel to make two 10″ squares. You also need to cut the batting and cereal bag to a 10″ square.
Cut your ribbon so you have 16 pieces measuring around 6″ in length.
Have some fun selecting the ribbons for your baby taggie blanket toy!
Fold the ribbon pieces in half. On one of the flannel squares, with right side up, pin the raw edges of the ribbon to the edge of the flannel, spaced evenly in a way that you like.
Baste stitch in place and remove pins. Set aside.
With the remaining piece of flannel, layer the wrong side with the batting piece and then the cereal bag square. Clip layers together and baste the edge. You can also add a little quilting here if you like.
Making sure the ribbons are tucked out of the way, align the two pieces of flannel right with sides together and pin or clip.
Sew around the edge at ½” seam allowance. Leave a 2″ to 3″ gap on one of the edges for turning.
You’re almost done your baby taggie blanket toy.
Clip the corners close to the stitching. Turn right side out through the gap.
Press with an iron and pin the opening closed. Top stitch around the whole square at ⅛” to finish.
