TIP TIME: Types of fasteners
Fasteners are the finishing touches that turn fabric into something functional.
Here are a few fastener options you could use for our fabric Christmas countdown chain tutorial: plastic snaps, buttons, or hook and loop fasteners.
Plastic Snaps
Plastic snaps are quick and easy to apply. They come in a variety of colour options, making them very versatile.
Buttons
Buttons are a classic choice. Some sewing machines can add both buttonholes and buttons, making them another great option for a clean, polished finish.
Hook-and-Loop Fasteners
Hook-and-loop fasteners, such as Velcro, are easy to sew in, and great for items that need to frequently open and close.

Tip: The Christmas Countdown Chain links needed 25 fasteners. We used plastic snaps for a few reasons. They’re easy to apply and have a clean look similar to a button, yet offer the convenience of hook-and-loop.
