TIP TIME: Working with Drawstrings
What’s your go-to drawstring material?
In our scrappy gift bag tutorial we made lots of drawstring bags. Which had us thinking: what’s your preferred drawstring material? The tutorial includes bags that use ribbon, cotton cord and twill tape. You could also sew small strips of coordinating or matching fabric to make drawstrings!

A great way to up the scrappy-ness would be to use the packaging that is often included in your fabric orders. Did you spot the TrendTex twill tape on our Ruby Star Society Peppermint Please polar bear bag?
Three quick tips for working with drawstrings
1) When working with drawstring material that is prone to fraying, place some tape around the end before securing the safety pin. This allows you to pull it through the casing more easily.
2) Make sure you account for the bulk of the drawstring material when creating drawstring casings. A wider drawstring will need a larger channel.
3) Consider the function of your drawstring. Ribbon adds a decorative touch to a drawstring gift bag, while cotton cord may be more durable over time.

What will your drawstring be used for?
