TIP TIME: Three ways to clip curves

Clipping curves in the seam allowances on a project is important to help it lay flat when turning right sides out. Making sure to complete this step will make your project more polished, so don’t be tempted to skip it! Here are three ways to clip your curves.

1) Make little cuts or notches with scissors. Cutting V shapes on convex edges will reduce bulk, and cutting small snips in concave areas will release tension in the fabric.

2) Grade the seams by simply trimming them down to make them smaller. This can work on gentler curves.

3) Use pinking shears to add automatic and evenly spaced V-shapes. This also prevents fraying if your seam allowances will be seen.
You can also use a combination of all of the above!
